“The Walking Dead” star Norman Reedus joins the podcast to discuss his role in the upcoming adaptation of “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.”
The actor, who plays Theon Greyjoy in the film, is in Los Angeles filming “The Walk,” a fantasy epic about a group of heroes fighting against a monstrous dark lord.
“We were working with Warner Bros., which had done this fantasy film called ‘The Hobbit,'” Reedus said on the podcast.
“And they said, ‘You know, we really like the way you did that in ‘The Lord Of The Rings’ and you want to do that in the movie.’
And I said, no, I want to make it a little bit darker, so that it’s more of a fantasy movie.
And they said you can make it darker, but you can’t make it more fantasy.”
Reedus said the movie was a good fit for his character because he “couldn’t have done it better.”
“I was trying to make a movie where I could be like Gandalf in ‘Lord Of The Ring,’ because I wanted to be the kind of person who could walk into a bar and say, ‘This is the Lord of The Rings.’
And it would just be like, ‘What is this?'”
“I really wanted to play the character like he was the Lord Of Rings, and so it was kind of a perfect fit for him.”
